The seasons are changing and fall is here. I'm in total nesting mode; cleaning house, putting the summer things away and canning up yummy things for when NO ONE wants to go out into the cold, etc. Over the last two weeks I've been pouring over one of my favorite canning blogs (<a href="http://www.foodinjars.com/" target="_blank">Food In Jars</a>) and shopping thru the last of the farmer's market. I've put up <a href="http://foodinjars.com/2009/09/fruit-butters-peaches-pears-and-apples/" target="_blank">apple and pear butters</a> so far....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This pic is actually Spiced Applesauce. I used freshly grated nutmeg, cinnamon, star anise and a good slug of apple cider in it.<br />
<br />
I just love getting the crockpot out and making something wonderful! (Corny sounding, I know ;) Water bath canning is so simple and easy once you have all your equipment out and great produce. I like being able to see all the full gleaming jars and get a satisfied feeling when I know exactly whats in it, etc.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I ended up with a dozen pint jars of apple butter and 10 pints of pear butter. Up next is reg and tomitillo salsa.<br />

Actually this is the second time I've knit it. The last time, it wasn't as big as I liked. Here's the BYOB...I've actually been meaning to knit for quite awhile. To my surprise, there's an updated <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/byob-20---bring-your-own-bags-v20" target="_blank">version</a> of the pattern.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3917/14187054938_4a8383cf1f_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3917/14187054938_4a8383cf1f_o.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Other than the fact I've gonna have a bunch of ends to weave in, I actually like how it's knitting up. Pretty straight forward directions. It IS alot of seed stitch (which I HATE) but I love how seed stitch looks so....::shrug:: I made do.<br />
<br />
Here's the finished denim bag from the last post.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3770/14302152184_d1b9992cee_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3770/14302152184_d1b9992cee_o.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3800/14116042959_fa0c96f1ee_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3800/14116042959_fa0c96f1ee_o.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I'm not 100% in love with how it looks; I was actually going to sell it at the next craft fair but I'm just NOT in love with it so....I saved it for myself.<br />
<br />
And how about an updated <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/jaywalker" target="_blank">Jaywalker Sock</a> ?! I'm actually a bit farther than this; I've finished the first and started the second sock.<br />

Oh well. I'll get to it! I have, however, been VERY busy.<br />
<br />
After buying my sweetie (who's a tea aficionado) a cast iron tea pot, I thought, what would be the perfect gift for it? Something I said I'd NEVER knit??? Yea. I know. A Tea cosy. ::RME::<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2911/14051204839_c7f9f81f78_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2911/14051204839_c7f9f81f78_o.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Here is the set complete with hot pad. I used alot of wool scrapes I had because it would keep the warm for the longest. Cast iron + wool= warm tea for hours!!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5574/14051239410_d9b7f50db8_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5574/14051239410_d9b7f50db8_o.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5152/14258019063_4c9111a8a0_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5152/14258019063_4c9111a8a0_o.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5567/14234536461_44be702434_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5567/14234536461_44be702434_o.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

I've also been going BAG CRAZY on the sewing end. I started (but haven't finished) a denim bag from scrapes, of course!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2927/14030667497_ff34741c6f_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2927/14030667497_ff34741c6f_o.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I'm not 100% sure I'm in love with the shape of the pieces or the pieces that I cut so this may change.<br /><br />Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05562709114901004133noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1559056784212273777.post-42838788124102993952014-04-25T03:45:00.004-04:002014-04-25T03:45:57.488-04:00Sometimes....I even SEW! (who knew?!)I've just completed my first craft fair where I was selling hand knit items (washcloths mostly) and my bath and body products. It was the first craft fair as official <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/DragonflyLakeScents" target="_blank">Dragonfly Lake Scents</a> and Bunny Spun fibers by one of the best spinners I know. It was great!<br />
<br />
Anyway, I thought it would be a good idea for us to have aprons to handle money in and keep other things while we're "working" etc. So without further ado....here's Amy's Apron!! (Mine to come soon!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The weather is attempting to get a little warmer and I've got startitis. So I've been knitting smaller type projects and trying not to cast on ALL. THE. THNGS!!!<br />
<br />
How's some Jaywalker socks sound?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3824/13817008525_25138d8ca2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3824/13817008525_25138d8ca2.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Dishcloths sound like a good idea too...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3671/13820425524_45a72f5f37.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3671/13820425524_45a72f5f37.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Oh yea! And my bestie, girlfriend and myself did a craft fair!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3815/13669033993_f593686760_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3815/13669033993_f593686760_o.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
This is alpaca yarn spun up by my bestie!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7451/13668756193_e2523f2304_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7451/13668756193_e2523f2304_o.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
And this is the table all set up and ready to go! I was selling soaps, body butters, body scrubs and washcloths/bathmitts.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7442/13618305554_806bf05c9d_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7442/13618305554_806bf05c9d_o.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

(Yayyyy....just in time for spring...lol) This skirt has been on the needles for almost 2 years. Mostly because last year, I knew I wasn't going to finish it before it got warm again so I let it hibernate until this fall/winter. And of course, I've now finished it but still won't get to wear it I don't think, because it's finally warming up around these parts. Oh well...LOL<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7437/13351250015_95d26ffbf0_z_d.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7437/13351250015_95d26ffbf0_z_d.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7066/13369460185_a07d389883_z_d.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7066/13369460185_a07d389883_z_d.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2854/13369576535_69e50b2e2b_z_d.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2854/13369576535_69e50b2e2b_z_d.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
The skirt itself actually ended up a bit longer than I imagined (either that or I'm a helluva lot shorter than I thought!!!) I guess I could steek it again at the bottom. I think I'll just leave it alone and call it a day. All and all....took wayyyy too long but, ah well.<br />

OVER. THE. PLACE!!!<br />
<br />
Check it out...<br />
<br />
My GF's lab mix is getting a custom made t-shirt. I used a couple of paper grocery bags to make a "pattern" of sorts by taping them together and then cutting it out to the measurements of a store bought jacket.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3722/12787500894_73ee02c3e1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3722/12787500894_73ee02c3e1.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I've also been knitting and sewing coffee cozies for my <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/DragonflyLakeScents" target="_blank">Etsy Shop</a>.....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3679/12604693534_e9bc2fbdd8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3679/12604693534_e9bc2fbdd8.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7384/12532321694_a2769356ac.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7384/12532321694_a2769356ac.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7333/12473894004_38d14590d0.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7333/12473894004_38d14590d0.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
I also spent some time over the weekend making Lemongrass scented soap (again for the etsy shop)...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3794/12464790413_73b51c54b4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3794/12464790413_73b51c54b4.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
I used a mixture of olive oil, palm oil, caster oil and coconut oil. It smells DIVINE!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3794/12465769134_814825b2b9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3794/12465769134_814825b2b9.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>

Here's what I've been up to....<br />
<br />
A little yarn bombing (with the help of the GF and the bestie!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5499/12192363016_e2bf4b56f7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5499/12192363016_e2bf4b56f7.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7289/12191782875_9606008897.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7289/12191782875_9606008897.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
This is outside of our local library....<br />
<br />
STILL trying to finish my Sidesplitter skirt. I WAYYYYY overshot the straight section and didn't realize until I was halfway thru the decrease section. And I was NOT ripping back. This damned skirt's been on the needles almost a year now because of one thing or another. So. I thought...what if I steeked it??? AND I DID!!!<br />
<br />
First I wrapped it around myself and measured/pinned where I wanted it to end. Then I single crocheted a line of stitches.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7299/12166764644_c9b11324b4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7299/12166764644_c9b11324b4.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
On either side of the crocheted line....I took the skirt to the sewing machine and did a line of zigzag stiches.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5503/12328228354_335a8d6d12.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5503/12328228354_335a8d6d12.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
Then....it was time to CUT!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2840/12328640794_6b0d843a74.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2840/12328640794_6b0d843a74.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
This baby helped!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5542/12327285063_5f153eb622.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5542/12327285063_5f153eb622.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
Afterwards, I picked up stitches on the side I wanted to be the waist, and am currently knitting the slowest 2X2 rib known to mankind. Le sigh....<br /><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05562709114901004133noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1559056784212273777.post-15294747272440971612013-12-20T03:34:00.001-05:002013-12-20T03:34:26.212-05:00Un-paper towels....I've been ALL OVER pinterest the past few months. Just pinning like it's my job! Anyways, over the last few years I've been trying to GO GREEN! as much as possible and one of the last things I've been trying to break away from is unnecessary paper products. Like napkins, paper towels/hand towels, Swiffer wipes, etc.<br />
<br />
I saw a tutorial for fabric paper towels on Pinterest and I thought about raiding my stash to make some. Here's the link <a href="http://cateyedkp.tumblr.com/post/28130255598/unpaper-towel-tutorial" target="_blank">Unpaper-towel tutorial</a>...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7345/11407014456_e77818f0c6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7345/11407014456_e77818f0c6.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I started by taking an actual paper towel and using it as my "pattern". I had some left over flannel-like fabric in my stash which I'm using as the back.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7289/11422940313_8a30074cda.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7289/11422940313_8a30074cda.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I used some left-over fabric for the front. I saved this from a dress I sewed my daughter a few years ago.<br />

I pinned both pieces together and sewed them on 3 sides. I started out with a zigzag stitch but didn't like it much so I ended up with just a straight stitch.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3723/11426183803_239883b49f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3723/11426183803_239883b49f.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
After sewing 3 sides, I pressed the seams out and used a chopstick to push the corners out. Except I forgot to snip the corners so I'm gonna have to go back to do that. Oops! LOL!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
All in all it was pretty easy to do, once I add the snaps and put them all together I'll post more updated pics. <br />

This pattern was a gift; it's based on the TV show Bones and a character on the show; Daisy Wick. I recycled some Knit Picks yarn. I unraveled a shawl and re-knit into these socks. I'm still here...still knitting/cooking/sewing and just CREATING. Life has been a rollercoaster lately so the blog has had to take a back seat.<br />
<br />
However, I am working on the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/missoni-inspired-chevron-blanket" target="_blank">Missoni Blanket</a> for my beloved and I to cuddle under. Fall is pretty much here and it's only downhill covered in snow and ice from here. ::le sigh::<br />

Dude! I sewed myself a maxi dress!<br />
<br />
I used <a href="http://sweet-verbena.blogspot.com/2011/07/boho-maxi-dress-tutorial.html" target="_blank">this</a> tutorial; it was REALLY easy. I think the hardest part was ACTUALLY GETTING STARTED. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3668/9259880250_fe94376cf5_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3668/9259880250_fe94376cf5_o.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I also slapped a belt on it I bought a few years ago from Lane Bryant. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7411/9257091991_826f5dda1e_z.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7411/9257091991_826f5dda1e_z.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I've dubbed it the Sunshine Dress. I think I picked the fabric (it's a jersey/knit fabric) from Joann's on clearance a while back. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. Now I just need an occasion to wear it!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05562709114901004133noreply@blogger.com0
